Canada: The Season So Far... and Whta's Next? (CA)

Canadian Championship will Highlight Kicking Horse
With three races gone already on the Canadian Ski Mountaineering Cup calendar and only a few opportunities remaining to improve their 2009 ranking, skiers are heading to Kicking Horse for the Canadian Nationla Championship at the “Dogtooth Dash” – a first offering in the ISMF race format from the Golden, B.C. area with a technical long course and an exciting ‘citizen’short course, plus prizes, food, and music – this event promises to be a party- come out and represent.

07/02: Matteau Top Woman at Sunshine 5000 (CA)

The “ARC’TERYX/SUNSHINE 5000” race kicked off the 2009 Canadian Cup season on Saturday 07 February 2009. With warm temps, a little new snow, and clear skies, more than 40 athletes tackled tow technical courses that showcased the extensive alpine terrain surrounding this Banf area. As hosted by SKI MOUNTAINEERING COMPETITION CANADA, of The ALPINE CLUB of CANADA, the Sunshine 5000 delivered more than 18 km. and 1500 metres climbing and descending of tough skinning, wailing downhills, and brutal bootpacking.

Grand Targhee Ski Mountaineering Classic (USA)

Grand Targhee teams startThe first ever teams race on US soil was held at Grand Targhee, WY, on Satuarday the 13th Jan. Almost 40 racer's showed up at battle it out in deep, new snow that made for hard skinning and challenging skiing.

Scott Coldiron and Brendan French took out the honours finishing first with the next 3 placing being decided in the final ski descent, making for a tight race.
On Sunday a short singles race was held. The "Free Style" race included 2 short "boot packs" (by foot, not skinning) and a long steep ski decent. This kind of race is aimed at introducing those with out all the super light, race gear into racing and was won by Brendan French, who used 190cm long, 98mm fat skis!

US Racers Gearing Up For 2008 Race Season

USSMAThe United States Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA) announces the 2008 race calendar: comprised of 15 races including new events at Grand Targhee, Whitefish and Whitewater Canada. For the first time on the US race calendar there are team events: at Grand Targhee and the Silverton Mt. COSMIC race at Silverton.

23/09: II South American Continental Championship

PodiumThe II South American Continental Championship of Ski Mountaineering U.I.A.A., organized by the “Federación Chilena de Andinismo”, took place on September the 23rd 2007 in the ski center Termas de Chillan.
The race started at 10.30 am, all the 62 racers from the Open Internacional, the Chilean championship, and the South American Continental Championship enjoyed the sunny and beautiful day, 28 racers participated in the championship11 came from Argentina, 2 from Venezuela.

II South American Cup of Ski Mountaineering

The opening of the II South American Cup of Ski Mountaineering U.I.A.A., organized by the “Club Andino Bariloche” and the “Federacion Argentina de Ski y Andinismo”, took place on September the 2nd 2006 in Chall Huaco Mountain.
