After the success of New Zealand's first ski mountaineering race series last winter, the 2008 series has been announced. The series will again be made up for 5 races, with the Ohau, Craigieburn and Turoa events all returning and new races added that will be held at Porters and Rainbow ski area's.
While last years series was organised by an individual person, this years series will have the weight of the newly formed SkiMoNZ (Ski Mountaineering New Zealand) behind it. As well as organising and devolving races in New Zealand, SkiMoNZ wants to work hard towards building a team to race at the 2010 world championships to be held in Andorra.
The high light of the 2008 SkiMoNZ series will be the CraigieBurner on the 6th September. The CraigieBurner will be a ISMF International Open, the first in New Zealand and only the 10th ski mountaineering race held on NZ soil.
The ski mountaineering race community in New Zealand hopes to see some foreign racers at this years races........
