03.10.2008: Dopage à la PDG 2008: le communiqué officiel UIAA
In agreement with the International Ski Mountain Federation (ISMF) and the athlete’s national federation
Fédération Française de la Montagne et de l'Escalade (FFME) the UIAA will manage a potential Anti-
Doping Rule Violation at the 2008 Patrouille des glaciers, the famous Ski mountaineering race held
every two years between Zermatt and Verbier.
We wish to inform that the analysis of the B sample was carried out by the Swiss Laboratory of Doping
Analysis in Lausanne. Dr Matthias Kamber, Director of Antidoping Switzerland, attended the opening
and start of the procedure on 23rd September as an independent expert.
The analysis of the B sample provided by the French athlete Patrick Blanc has confirmed the initial
result from the A sample of the presence of the recombinant EPO. The sample was taken on 19th April
2008 for the Patrouille des glaciers race, the long distance teams’ world championship.
The UIAA will therefore initiate Disciplinary Proceedings against the athlete concerned in order to
examine a potential violation of UIAA and WADA doping rules in relation to the presence of a prohibited
substance.
Further information will be communicated as soon as it becomes available.
